Update your iPad App Icons for the new High-Resolution Retina Display “New iPad”

The time is here! Finally what everyone has wanted… A High Resolution Retina Display screen on the iPad!

As many people speculated on the name being the iPad 3 it turns out that we can just call it the ‘New iPad’

Naturally since the screen has been updated that means that your wonderful icons for your apps must be updated as well to make sure they look great for everyone who downloads your app to their new device!

Here are the new app icon size requirements for the ‘New iPad”

App Icon: 144px x 144px

App Store Icon: 1024px x 1024px

Launch Screens: 1536px x 2008px (portrait) & 2048 x 1496 (landscape)

Spotlight Search Icon: 100px x 100px

Settings Icon: 58px x 58px (same as you currently use for the iPhone 4)

Toolbar & Navigation Bar Icons: Approximately 40px x 40px

Tab Bar Icons: Approximately 60px x 60px

If you are creating o r modifying your universal iOS app you now need a total of 6 REQUIRED icon sizes, and if you do all the icons (including spotlight search and settings) there is an additional 4 sizes you would need!

Also note that Launch Images are “REQUIRED FOR ALL APPS” as stated by Apple. Which means you NEED to have the following:

iPhone and iPod Touch Launch Image: 320px x 480px

iPhone 4 and iPod Touch High-Resolution Retina Display: 640px x 960px

iPad 1 and iPad 2 Launch Image: 768px x 1004px (portrait) & 1024px x 748px (landscape)

‘New iPad’ High-Resolution Retina Display Launch Image: 1536px x 2008px (portrait) & 2048px x 1496px (landscape)

All of these sizes were grabbed directly from Apple @ https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/IconsImages/IconsImages.html

Keeping track? That’s a total of 6 Launch Images that are REQUIRED!

In short, 10 different icon sizes, 6 launch image sizes…and a partridge in a pear tree!

As always, give me a shout should you require any updates to your icon and/or launch screens

Complete App Icon Packages will now include the new app icon sizes required for the New iPad!

Nice little read I found this evening for those of you interested in jailbreaking your iOS5 devices. I know many of us don’t do such things, but there are still some out there who enjoy the freedom of a jailbroken device.

I notice that most people I speak with that want their iDevice jailbroken are those who have had/or have dealt with an android device.
