Tips for preparing your iPad graphics!
So you have your latest and greatest app on the App Store right now…but it’s only for the iPhone & iPod Touch! What do you need to do!? I will share a few basic things to consider when you are preparing your app.
Graphic changes:
- You need to change your icon size. – 72×72 is the required size for iPad applications.
- You also need a 48×48 icon for Spotlight searches. (may or may not be required anymore!)
- You will now require 2 default.png screens (at minimum) – your app must be functional from each side of the device (portrait and landscape).
- You must also re-create your default(launch) screens – scaling up your iPhone one is not a wise option!
- You have more real estate on that screen! – 1024x768px vs 480x320px on the iPhone – backgrounds/game elements may need to be larger.
- Your smaller elements (buttons/game objects) may need to be larger as they may look funny on the larger screen.
- Tab bar icons – also larger – not to be 30×30 as is commonly used on iPhone applications.
As always, play around and test your app out on the iPad! You’ll definitely be noticing some differences if you simply use your current iPhone sized graphical elements.
Have fun!
